Ha, some thoughtless mind tickling for a tuesday morning :):

ajtiv, Guinness, Tmax, Hikethe115, and HarryK all met on a friday night at Roaring Brook to do some hiking on the weekend in the ADKs. Rain, would be falling on the drive up from NJ on friday and after a horrible accident south of Albany, which delayed both Al and I (carpooling) and also Tmax and Hikethe115 (Also carpooling), we all trickled into the roaring brook parking area around 9pm. Saw HarryK getting some crap from his car at the time while Al and I repacked a few things. Not bringing stove/food, we will eat at the car and the parking lot. Made life a bit easier!

Anyway, we hike the .3 miles up and Tmax and Hikethe115 are already relaxing by an unlit campfire ring. Al and I set up our tents and we try to think non-rain thoughts.

Well, it seemed to work. Ed shows up in the middle of the night after we're all sleeping and then proceeds to beat us all out to the trail, getting a 6:10am start at the AMR gate!!! Much to the surprise of Al and I trying to get Ed up from his tent, only to realize, he isn't there.

Anyway, HarryK decides to bail due to health issues and so the rest of us, mosey across the street (TMax almost gets plowed by a car flying up 73) and then get to the gate around 8:10.

Hiking up the shortcut towards Colvin/Blake, snapping some pictures along the way... we get to Colvin after leaving Tmax and Hikethe115 on their slower pace. Nice views from the summit, we're sure to see that again on the way back. Down and up to Blake, Al and I enjoy the little scrambles and little rock challenges. After a bagel on Blake, we return to Colvin to find Hikethe115 and Guinness relaxing on the summit. Looking towards Lower Ausable lake, I finally see boaters enjoying the water and I eat another bagel sandwich. The sun is very out and also the bugs, so I try my best to eat and swat at the same time.

Off to Nippletop, hiking through Elk Pass is fun, it's a nice 1400ft climb after dropping about 800ft from Colvin to get back up to Nippletop. We stop for a bit at the ponds to soak my head and then we drop the pack at the intersection to do the .2 miles to the summit. Meet a guy with a tripod on the summit of n-top and we chat a bit.

The rest of the hike is a fast mostly downhill zoom, practicing the rest step or more likely, controlled freefall technique. A few pictures from Dial and Bearpen, we reach the noonmark shoulder fire area which we painfully have to swithback up and over.. But after that, we hit a steep trail all the way back down to about 1400ft before hitting the road again and then a short walk to the gate and out.

On Sunday, Al and I went over from St Huberts to the ADK Loj to do this nice loop along the MacIntyre's consisting of Wright's Peak, Algonquin, Boundary, and Iriquois. This is a slightly easier, shorter hike than saturday and it was slightly overcast in the afternoon. We looped around down to Lake Colden and Avalanche Lake through the pass back to Marcy Dam and the Loj again. Great views of Colden, Marshall, Wallface, Marcy can be had from the three peaks. Both Guinness, Tmax, and Hikethe115 scooted sunday morning to go back to reality, which left Al and I to hike today.
