The latest issue of Friends of Baxter newsletter says that a new crew camp/winter bunkhouse has been constructed between the picnic area and the stream at Nesowadnehunk Field Campground.

The article also says the entire campground is being redesigned to limit impact on stream and banks.

Anyone seen the new bunkhouse or know if the the capacity is larger than the old structure?

Spencer??

My understanding is that the new building (it was constucted mostly last year and everything but the interior was completed in March when I skied by it) is the new Ranger cabin. It will be followed in the coming years (this one or next, I think) by a new guest bunkhouse.

the lean-tos on the stream bank on the far side of the stream are being relocated to the Field area. THe field will have several lean-tos arranged around the perimeter, all aimed at Katahdin. The lean-tos on the non-shore side of the far side of the stream (I know, I know) will remain. The current bridge over the stream will be replaced with a foot bridge.

essentially, the far side of the stream will be only foot-accessible and two new buildings will exist on the Field side.

This info is from Buzz himself. The plan is being implemented over the next few years. I don't know how his retirement will affect this plan. The new Ranger cabin has already been built, though.
