We arrived at the parking lot between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. There was no one around but the lot WAS FULL. I expected to see a ton of people at the top but that wasn't the case. There was only one family at the cabin. I assume that whatever was going on, the folks spent the night in the Sandwhich range and did not go up Chocorua.
We did the loop by going up Liberty and down Brook. Both trails had a lot of mud lower down which becomes less and less as you go up.
There were no blowdowns on Liberty but there were a few mostly minor ones on the lower section of Brook.
The ledges on both trails were dry and the grip was good.
The Brook trail is very attractive down low along the stream, but the trail can be a bit of a trap. It goes up very gradually for about two miles, then turns and heads straight up the mountain. As we headed down, I overheard a rather vehement argument between a couple on their way up about continuing.
Here's a tip. If you're not hardcore, save your romance and go up Liberty, it's not quite as strenuous.
It was a magnificent day and gorgeous on top. Had a delightful conversation with a USFS ranger. Sorry, I don't remember her name, but it's obvious that the Forest Service has some very good young rangers.
