It was a Rangers party at the Information center parking, 6 or 7 ranger's trucks. :D
Inside We meet Jim, He teld us a Canadian is loosing in Marcy erea. He ask me what my plan for today? Cliff and Redfield. Stay yours eyes open!! :(

We started few minutes after 8 a.m. with snowshoes on perfect snowshoes tracks. In the same snow conditions, We passed two people was searching the people near the junction Colden-Phelps.

All the snowshoes tracks turned in Colden trail near Arnold Lake, We need to broken trail in 12" to 18" inches of dry snow. Without tracks on Opalescent trail to the lean-too. At this place one or two peoples cheked if the people was in the lean-to and returned at the avance Colden ranger's station.

The fun started at this place, in 18' to 24" inches of snow, without possibility to know what will be the next surprise in the next step..We took more of one hour to arrive at the first small cliff after the blowdown. This part was a little bite more friendly and not too difficult to stay in the usual path. It was a big game to go up the master cliff, fortunately Junior know very well where We put each feet in the summer season...ouf.

We catched the Cliff shoulder summit with few hesitations.
When We started to go down We made a perfect small roud and We saw our tracks in the other side of blowdow... Did not panic, look the map, estimate a bearing and go step by step, many time I tell Yayoug, my tibia cathed a unvisible tree...
When We recognized the col between the shoulder and the real summit I saw a large smile in the Junior face...now and only now We was sure to catch the summit. After We kissed the half wood plaquette in the top :) We returned very slowly to go down the cliff place.

We took the decision to return by the Lakes Colden and Avalanche. We stay in the snowshoes tracks but We need to do not passe at the same place on the lake, under around 2" inches of dry snow a sluch catch the snowshoes and We need to remove this ennemy stock.

We meet Steve (one assistant ranger living in the Colden Lake avance rangers station, He tell me they find the people in the North side of Marcy without other precisions.

Just before the dark time We signed out after a 9 hours round trip for only Cliff.

If You have a plan to go in this area, ;) maybe this report help You. No track in the West side approach to Gray-Skylight-Marcy and in will be in more of 2' of dry snow without solid base. Perfect snowshoes tracks to Colden.

Today We relaxe and wiil return in this aere tomorrow the first winter day the real challenge will be there.

Pinpin Junior.
