We hiked in the day before, Tuesday, out of Upper Works and camped at Colden Dam and summited both mountains on Wednesday. When we were coming in we bumped into several people on the way out that said because of all the rain the previous day people were having a hard time summiting Redfield and Marshall. The trails were definately muddy, even by normal Calamity Brook trail standards but we had no issues getting to our campsite. There are a bunch of cut and soon to be walking logs in between the Flowed Lands lean-to and the McMartin lean-to that the hard working trail crews are in the process of putting in. Thanks!
The rivers were all roaring from all the previous rain, but during our summits of both Cliff and Redfield we never had any issues because of it, other than to enjoy with awe the Opalesent River as it roared by us on the way to the trailhead. The trail to Cliff was muddy and had some blowdown, as is typical, but they posed no problems, and while the cliff portions of the trail were very steep and slow going, they were easily done with some caution. Both the junction off the trail by Uphill lean-to and the Redfield/Cliff split were easily marked by cairns and the trails themselves were very well defined. The trail up Redfield was clear of blowdown and enjoyable all the way up. Also, the cool weather we had was great for keeping away bugs; never had to use spray.

Required gear: waterproof boots, poles, gaiters
Note: During our midweek trip, the Flowed Lands, McMartin, and Cedar Point? lean-tos all had occupants, the Uphill did not; we had the only tents visable along our chosen path.
