The hard-packed trail from Upper Works to Flowed Lands was in excellent shape. We crossed Flowed Lands safely as we stayed to the right and headed around the point to the base of the cliffs. The ice across the Opalescent is thinning, and it will not be long before it opens up. Once to the eastern shore of Flowed Lands. we followed the beaten path up the ravine staying to the right of the cliffs and ridge as we ascended. Eventually we reached the small pond which sits just below the last well-defined false summit. We stayed to the right of this bump and then headed directly to the summit. For me, it was the finest winter hiking day of this season. Thanks to the trailblazers who broke this really neat trail to the top of Cliff. At the top, the sun was shinning brightly, no clouds, a slight breeze, comfortable temp, and absolutely spectacular views of all the summits to the west and north-northeast. We lingered there for 1/2 hour before the easy descent back to and across Flowed Lands. In winter this is THE only way to the summit of Cliff. It is simply delightful!
