Date of Hike: 12-08-07
Trail Conditions: Hard packed snow up to Marcy dam. A couple of inches of new stuff on top of a nice firm foundation (enough to fill in between all the rocks!) up to the Lake Arnold Trail. From there up we had to break trail in snow up to two feet deep. Thankfully, the snow is pretty dry so it didn't pack onto snowshoes but made getting a good grip difficult on some of the steeper sections.
Special Equipment Required: SNOWSHOES and warm clothes!
Comments: Met a very nice non-VFTT hiker who caught up with me on the way up and we switched off breaking trail (thanks Matt!). Still took us nearly 2 1/2 hours to get to the summit from the Lake Arnold junction. We made it back down in about 45 minutes!
