Date of hike: May 24
Conditions: Loj parking lot to Marcy dam, and to start of steep ascent (from Lake Colden): mostly dry. Steep Ascent: Care needed as it's mostly on rock, and rock is wet (except for exposed part at top). Muddy areas: traverse at top and near Lake Arnold (I think these areas are always muddy). Descent: mostly dry, one or two areas needing more attention due to a couple of sections of steep, wet rock. Those we met descending towards Lake Colden were finding it time consuming going down the wet, steep rock that we went up.
Special Equipment needed: none
Comments: Our timing was perfect, we started right when the rain stopped, and got to the top when the clouds lifted. Some bugs at Marcy dam and the parking lot, none elsewhere, although it was very windy.
