As we started out of the Loj, we had the neat experience of running into a team of guys who were attempting to set a world record for the fastest summit of all 50 state high points, and were going to do Marcy this day.
Our trip was a loop, going up from Colden Lake and down Lake Arnold. On our way in we passed a couple of people doing trail maintenance, putting in a new, much needed higher bridge over the previously flooded one short, that is just a short ways from the trailhead. Thank you for the great job! Not only there but also several other spots long the trail to the Lake Colden outpost were signs of recent trail maintenance.
There had been some rain the previous night and a few mistings throughout the morning so the trails were wet and muddy, certainly quite passable with some waterproof boots. We didn't encounter any new blowdown on our trip. The trail up Colden from Colden Lake was a constant stream over the rocks, but we really didn't encounter any slipping issues and the rock was pretty grippy. As we approached the summit, the clouds lifted and rewarded us with some great views! Aside from some mud hopping on the descent to Arnold Lake, the rest of the trail was in great shape. The bugs were out on the lower portions of the trails, but thankfully non existant on the upper half of the mountain.

Equipment: Waterproof boots; bug spray; poles; camera
