Condition of East Branch Road?

Hi all,

Has anyone been down the east Branch Road this summer (road that parallels the Wilderness Trail)? If so, can you please provide a condition report?

I am wondering if it is passable on a Mt Bike and, if so, how far down the road.

For example, can one bike all the way to the junction with the Cedar Brook Trail?

Wheeled or mechanized vehicles are not permitted beyond the Franconia Brook East campsite, which is approximately 3 miles in from the parking lot on the East Side Trail. At the gate there, the wilderness area begins.

I did this a two weeks ago, and it's exactly like Waumbek says. No bikes in the Wilderness Area.

To answer the original question, it is basically a gravel road to the Wilderness boundary, even a road bike is OK that far
