wind and sun on an old friend;Crane Mt.On the way to vermont and new hamp.we decided it was too nice to just drive on the thruway from Syr. NY. We decided to stop and visit an old friend.We climbed up main trail and then down ridge to pond and the north summit cliffs.There was major blow down on road in about 1/4 mile from sign in so we pulled off to one side to park.Lots of blow down from sign in on up to junction with ridge trail.All bare rock was free of snow and in the evergreens on ridge there was about one foot of mushy snow.The pond was beautiful with the strong wind blowing up water spouts and sprays of water.There were great views from the north cliffs on north summit (my favorite)we stoped to bask in the sun and then went back the way we came as the hour was getting late and the sun sets way to soon.We headed off to vermont and lincoln gap to climb abe in the am.
