First hike on CP since Autumn. Quite alot of blue sky early morning, but a high, thin cloud layer advanced as I neared treeline on the Cutoff.

Lots of critter tracks, like these from a snowshoe hare...

All peaks in the clear, with interesting cloud action...

One of my favorite features of this mountain is all the mossy trees...

While shooting this tree I took one step on the edge of the track and fell into a spruce trap. I managed to keep the camera out of the snow, holding it over my head, with my other hand flailing about trying to stay above the snow. I came to rest with my upper body in the track. From the waist down, I dissapeared into the trap. I put the camera away and fought my way out of it. I had just finished putting myself back together and was trying again for the shot of the mossy tree when two hikers came by. It was Peter Crane, of AVSAR, and his wife Holly, whom I had recently met. Great people. That was almost a personal crisis! Can you imagine being rescued from a spruce trap by an expert SAR person right in the track of Crawfrord Path in perfect weather

Happy Trails :)
