Utilizing the Wiggle Brook Road approach, three of us were just on the edge of this weekend's Nor'easter; sunshine to the north, menacing storm clouds to the south, but filtered sun with occasional gusts along our route. The roads were rather icy initially, but above 2500' snow conditions were much more favorable for skiing. A well-predated moose carcass at the beginning of Wiggle Brook was soon followed by a sighting of two live critters (still amazing to watch after all these years). Two disabled snowmachines also littered the roadside emphasizing the superiority of foot travel (who's an elitist?!). From our recollection of summer travels on the road, we had thought that we'd need to snowshoe the last section to the height-of-land, but that turned out to be unnecessary (which allowed us to keep skiing for a mile onto the logging road that leaves Wiggle Brook to the south, probably to within a mile of the summit). Snowshoeing SE, from the end of the logging road, up into the shallow col betwen the summit and the "knob" to the west provided a line that was delightfully more "open" than the steep, thick, blow-down littered routes we'd used previously. The ski out, down the logging road and down Wiggle Brook was thrilling and fast in many sections; a nice ending to another wonderful day in the mountains.
