Darwinmania!

Olivia Judson (aka "Dr. Tatiana" of Dr Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation) has just published an opinion article in the New York Times titled "Darwinmania!"

The article anticipates the sesquicentennial next month of a then-little-noticed July 1, 1858, presentation to the Linnean Society in London. The presentation was arranged so that Darwin's dithering wouldn't result in him being scooped on the theory of natural selection. (Fortunately for Spencer Tracy's career, Darwin finally published "On the Origin of Species" the next year.)

If'n yer a Darwin fan, you'll probably enjoy Dr. Judson's perspective and insights. If'n yer not, well, yer jest hopeless. ;)

(And now for the bonus round: Which Darrin played John T. Scopes?)

William Jennings Bryan for the prosecution and Clarence Darrow for the defense, it doesn’t get any better than that, even though the names were changed for the film. Spencer Tracy at his best!
