Broke ground on the Adirondacks on Saturday. Hiked 4, 42 to go.

Was a long day. Left New Paltz at 4:00 am headed North. Nice easy drive, but a little disappointed when the rain started. Had breakfast at the Noonmark Diner and then proceeded to the Saint Hubert PA. By the time I got myself ready to go the rain had stopped and I was walking by 8:30.

I signed in at the trail register and started up the Lake Rd Tr to Henry Goddard Leach Tr #42. Up over Bear Den Mtn, Dial Mtn, and Nippletop. No views from the tops since the peaks were overcome by cloud cover. After Nippletop I head down Tr #41 to Elk Pass where I stopped for lunch at the pond. By this time the sun had burned off the clouds to a humid haze. I then proceeded to the Jct to Tr # 40 to Mt Colvin. Tr # 55 to Blake Peak. Colvin to Blake seemed like a straight down and up turn around and down and up again back on Tr # 55 over Colvin. I took another break on Colvin before proceeding down back to the Jct to Tr # 40 out to Gill Brook and back to Lake Rd Tr out. The trail along Gill Brook was a very nice walk with all the waterfalls.

I made it back to the PA by 7:30 and back home by 11:30. This was a very long day trip. I had planned on overnight weekend trips and not day trips, but I was itching to start the Adirondacks. I look forward to the upcoming trips to the Daks.

That sounds like a nice intro to the ADKs, nothing like having a hard long day hike as your first hike there..

Hope the trail is in good shape, I should be doing pretty much the same mountains this upcoming weekend!

Jay,

The trail was steep, but in excellent condition. All blowdowns have been cleared. A much deserved THANK YOU to the trail crews. Mud wasn't to bad, nothing that would suck your boots off your feet.

Glad you made it to the Adirondacks (although, that does sound like a loooong day). I'm assuming your wallet made it safely up and back with you? :D
