Big difference one day makes. Two of us climbed Dix via the Round Pond trail one day after TMax. We also found the trail well broken, but it is now not windblown, and the steep section to the right of the slide is pretty well packed. Still snowshoes with aggressive crampons are needed. I tried the snow several times off trail and only sunk in a few inches so it appears to be getting consolidated. Also we met four hikers on the summit who had come up from Elk Lake to the Beckhorn, and they found the breaking easy. We agree with TMax--wonderful butt sliding!
