Started out from Rt 73 Round pond and returned the same way. Started out around 8am and I can say bug season is here in the 'Dacks! Mosquitos and black flies were both out and even with bug spray still managed to pick up some bites. Never seen so much wildlife on the trail as this time either, tons of frogs and toads along with numerous others.
The trails were in very good shape; I don't remember any blowdown on the entire trek; some mud, but nothing out of the ordinary for the high peaks. The path over to Hough was very tight but easy to follow. Beautiful day to hike, but VERY hot and sunny. Brought over a gallon of fluids and still ran out. The trail up Dix is still as rough as I remembered it. Overall great hike.
Items needed: water (lots of it), bug spray, sunscreen, waterproof hiking boots, poles, route-finding skills; and a camera!
