Trail Conditions: Hiked in via Elk Lake. The road is completely bare, but has some soft spots and sink holes. There is snow on the trail as soon as you leave the summer trailhead, and the depth increases as to hike further. A few small patches of ice were encountered later on, and there are a couple of sections with pretty deep slush/puddles. Once on the actual ascents all the snow is the spring slush/mash potatoes/pellet snow that we all love so dearly. Very little ice anywhere, even on the Macomb slide.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes are essential. Bare booting is a possibly to about the Lillian Brook (since the trail is solid and the snow appears to be below 8''). Microspikes might have been nice in a few spots, but overall traction can be pretty good with just boots.
Comments: More later in a TR, but all 5 mountains are broken out, including the herd path between Dix and Hough.
