We are going to be offering a Doubletop Hiking day here. Likely in April. I'll post a link to sign up when I confirm a date. Will be a free event, but you'll need to check in and show ID. It is a herd path/bushwack. For those looking to add this to their 3500 list, I hope to offer a spring and fall date each year.

Very interesting and very cool. I completed the 3500 Club peaks many years back and was disappointed for current aspirants when I saw that Doubletop and Graham were now off-limits. Happy to see the development of a solution like this. 👍👍

I assume you mean Doubletop in the Catskills? I assume a day of access, not a group hike, correct?

Would setup and cleanup volunteers be useful? If you marked non-obvious parts of the herd path (for example plastic tape) cleanup might be limited to a smaller area. As property owners your choice, but whatever allows you to do this again.

This Doubletop opportunity reminds me of Mount Croydon, Sullivan County’s high point in NH. Croydon lies within a private game reserve, Corbin Park, with a tall, 35-mile-long, chain link, perimeter fence to make Irish elk and Russian boar available for hunting by the 31 landowners. The Blue Mountain Forest Association that manages the reserve opens the main gate to escort a group trip or two to the trailhead during July and August for a $50 fee per individual. As co-organizer for the 2005 High Pointers Konvention at Purity Spring Resort (King Pine ski area) in late summer 2005, I helped arrange access for a group of 17 avid state high pointers, which allowed several to complete the 10 county high points in NH.

Yes, DT in the Catskills. I have some summer trip leaders who may volunteer to come lead some hikes that day. Otherwise, I’ll give people coordinates and some starting recommendations. It’s mostly a ridge line, so pretty easy to follow.

Thanks, Thom. I remember reading about this private reserve many years ago. It's strikes me that it's about as sporting as fishing with dynamite at the local fish hatchery pond.

Any possibility of opening Graham for a day at some point?

Is this to the traditional summit on the private Gould family property, or to South Doubletop which is on state land?

I am unaware that any of the groups sponsoring patches (3500 Club, CMC) are accepting either summit for their respective lists.

^^^^

I think this is what some would refer to as “Breaking News.” LOL.

Previous posts and context (ID requirement etc.) make it quite clear that this is the legit Doubletop.

By 'legit' do you mean the legit higher of the 2 DTs, or 'legit' meaning the one the public is legit allowed to hike? ;-)

The location of Frost Valley would normally take the hiker to S DT first and then to N. I did this very hike many years ago from FV, having paid for the privilege, and registered beforehand.

To answer a question above, the 3500 Club does not have North DT on their list, actively discourages going there, and has tried many different compromises with the property owners, all without success. If this is a new development, I am not aware of it, nor is the current president.

Hey Tom.

So, first of all, I am not “in the know.” Just reading what everyone else here is also seeing.

But Jennifer’s posts are pretty clear and unambiguous to me. Why would she say Doubletop and refer to it as a 3500 peak if she meant South Doubletop (which is not currently on the list either)? And why would there be an ID requirement for a hike on state land? Just connecting the dots here. FWIW, I hiked Doubletop in the late 90s and have never been on South Doubletop.

A quick internet search will direct you to her Linkedin page, where she indicates she is the Adventure and Trips Director of the Frost Valley YMCA (also repeated it here). Would appear she joined VFTT specifically for this announcement.

But I have no dog in this fight other than applauding her apparent effort.
