Sunday we met up with Double Bow to tackle a death march - 5 peaks, 16 miles, and 5500 feet of elavation gain.

Others have done this hike in the previous weekends - maybe this is becoming a favorite VFTT hike? Who's next?

The hike took us 11 hours, starting at the north end, going counter clockwise as the others have done.

This was our 3rd day of hiking in a row, and left us very tired. Having donethe Davis Path the week before, we thought this was a harder hike, even though the milage and elevation gain was less.

Death March!? Looks like a fun-in-the-sun day to me!! I like the pictures... seems like you had a clearer day than we had when we did the Baldfaces!

bob&geri: funny, we hike many of the same hikes, at roughly the same speed, on roughly the same dates, yet we haven't bumped into each other. Very strange... we need to change that :)

Isn't that a great hike? I think what gets you on it is the constant change from up to down and back. It nearly ripped my hiking shoe right off my foot about 1/2 way through!

That’s interesting. Now I really have to hike Davis Path. :)

The Royce-Baldface hike does require a little planning for water needs. I recall finding it only once from a very small flow crossing the trail. I believe it was somewhere between Rim Junction and Meader.

This was a fantastic day on the trail. The weather was great and the views were simply amazing. I can't believe how the profile of the hike looks! Looking at it, I'm still asking, we did all that?!?! Thank you so much for having me along. I'm very glad I went. I had a blast. I've never eaten so many blueberries in one day!

I think I'll have to do this again. So how about next weekend? :D

I've done a couple loops in the area but haven't been to West or East Royce yet. So it looks like I'm heading to West Royce. Is East Royce worth the side trip? I'll only have one car so it'll be an out and back.

Yes! Take the side trip...the views are well worth it!! :D Plus I think I recall seeing some blueberries near the top!

There are ton's of blueberries on East and West Royce - even after Geri finished with them :>

LOL!!! Think you recall seeing some blueberries on the top!?!? That's like saying you think Michael Jackson might be a little "different"!

There were so many blueberries throughout this trip that you just had to wonder at the fact that they hadn't all been eaten (though Geri and I gave it a try)!

The side trip is very worthwhile. The views are amazing and really shouldn't be missed. You will be glad of the effort you put in to getting there.

bobandgeri, great hike we did that back in 96. Well a less ambitious trek than yours. We camped at Basin Pond, fine spot. Did the Baldface loop on one day then the Royces the next. One the third day we climbed spruce, ames Mt and Speckled Mt. Before returning home we went up Blueberry Mt, it was a great trip wandering from Me to Nh and to Me again.
