East Osceola, Mt. Osceola via Greeley Ponds Trail, Mt. Osceola Trail
Date of Hike: Friday, April 17, 2009
Trail Conditions: Spring snow, ice, mud
Special Equipment Required: Crampons
Comments:
Monorail started at the parking lot and was there for most of the hike.
Greeley Ponds Trail was mostly monorail with some open mud spots. Water crossings were all rockhoppable, though the largest one was a bit tricky. A few blowdowns, chainsaw/axe will be required for at least one of them. Barebootable.
Mt. Osceola Trail to East Osceola - monorail in the flats, blue ice on quite a bit of the steeps. Microspikes were quickly outmatched for the ascent (and out of the question for the descent), switched to crampons. A few blowdowns, one will need a chainsaw/axe.
Mt. Osceola Trail to Mt. Osceola - monorail in flats, blue ice in some steeps. Crampons required. Chimney still has ice in it, bypass is mostly snow/ice free and dry. Some blowdowns.
