Date of Hike: 08 - 05 - 2015
Trail Conditions: Fairly dry, several small brooks on the East Pond Trail up from the Kanc were easy to cross, Some trees just required a tint bit of bending down, nothing of consequence or requiring leaving the trail.
Special Equipment Required: None
Comments: This could have been called, Tecumseh, the hard way. Was looking for something I had not done before and The East Pond trail ends near the Tripoli Road end of the Mt. Tecumseh trail. I normally wouldn't do a trail to a pond & Garry had never climbed Tecumseh from the Tripoli Rd. side. With two cars, we left one at Waterville Valley and then drove to the East Pond trailhead over on the Kanc. One way to look at the hike was we had a 5.1 mile PUD of over 1300 feet before reaching Tripoli Road and then a 1/3 of a mile road walk. However, the East Pond trail is very nice and the views by the pond are very worthwhile. The Tecumseh trail from Tripoli Rd. is, IMO, a nicer approach although 6/10ths of a mile longer each way with more elevation gain as you go up West Tecumseh but it's a nice walk.
