Trail conditions: One person had been up Butterfield recently..trail now broken out..snowshoes needed.. Ridge Trail packed out to East Rattlesnake trail which was packed out heading down to Pinehurst.. Ridge trail broken out and heavily drifted to Col trail.. Col trail to Pinehurst..looked like we were the first ones on it this year.. Now broken out but not packed.

Equipment: Snowshoes and poles..cold today so we were pretty layered up

Comments: Some of the group was planning Moats today but cancelled due to winds and sub zero cold.. I wanted to get out a bit and Karen got in touch so we decided on a nice 3 mile loop on the Rattlesnakes in Holderness..we started up the Butterworth Trail with other car at the Pinehurst end.. One person had been up trail.. there was deep snow and while I broke trail for awhile Karen took over after a bit and flew on her lightnings to the summit.. Enjoyed the remarkable vista from the ledge down below there and headed across the ridge where the trail, while it had been broken out at one point, was now snowfilled and drifted.. We had planned a bush wack from the ridge back to the car we had parked down at Rockywold but seeing the col trail untouched we enjoyed the deep soft cushy snow there and broke that out instead...lovely day
