Sunday had a split personality in the Southern Presis - sunny and warm on one side, and icy and cold on the other.

The undercast to the West began to break up around 10 or so.

I was using Joby's new GorillaPod Focus tripod, which is something I have been waiting for! It's basically an oversized version of their smaller 'pods, made with better materials - It holds my 5D and a 25-105 f4 without a problem. Only 1.1 lb.
You can use whatever small ball head you want on it. Great for cairns!:

Then, after all that beautiful sun and no wind...going down the Ammo really sucked. Tremendous amounts of water ice, verglas and hideous invisible black ice, with no snow to pad any falls - quite dangerous, regardless of footwear. I would have been much better off continuing to the Jewell Trail, which would have been way less icy, to get back to the base station. Something to remember for next time!

Tim, your photos always impress me! You capture an almost HDR-type quality to your images - they just pop in a way that most photos do not.

Thanks for sharing these - I especially love that first rime-iced cairn shot! :)

Finding Nemo!

The second one looks like sea anemone and there should be little clown fish swimming on through.

I dig #5 with those blue hues in the valley. To bad there wasn't any wind. When the cold North wind blows in Frosty comes back to life.

I had an ex-girlfriend like that.

Simply amazing photos as always.

What time were you up there?

#5 looks just like a painting I have...

Thanks again for sharing.
