Pierce and Eisenhower via Crawford Path

Moderately cold, breezy, snow showers were conditions for this AMC book hike of approx. 10 miles. An 8:00 start and a good pace got us to the summit of Eisenhower by 12:00. Two leaders, two Bills + Mike and I made up the group of 6. Winds were brisk when you were in exposed areas requiring balaclavas and for most of us, goggles. I got mild frost nip on my nose in spite of wearing balaclava most of time above tree line. Hadn't noticed it during the hike until riding home in car when I noticed my nose felt a little sore. Visibility was limited until 1:00 or 1:30 when we summited Pierce and the sun started poking through. By the time we got back to cars and I was driving by Bretton Woods scenic overlook, entire Presidential range was in the clear, so I did come away with something of a viewing reward for our efforts.

Trail had nicely packed base and had new snow of varying depths depending if you were under trees or not. Our group packed it down nicely.

Gear: Balaclava, snowshoes, poles, no crampons, goggles were optional

Comments: Thanks to Tim and Marjorie for leading a great trip! They assembled a good group and provided excellent leadership on this hike in marginal conditions. Tim took utmost care to ensure we stayed on the trail while above treeline on ridge between Eisenhower and Pierce and maintained good pace. Some of us in the group could have been more effective in timing our gear changes.
