EMS is moving out of the Fox Run Mall in Portsmouth NH to a bigger, non-mall location near the Home Depot in its new bid to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts. The Portsmouth location is an obvious attempt to snag consumers flowing up I-95 from Boston to the Conway area. The Grand Opening is Aug. 3-5, 2007. Good deals???

Cool. Any idea on how big it will be? I didn't even know there was one in Portsmouth. I'd imagine it's pretty tough to compete with the Kittery Trading Post just across the river.

I'll be in the area tomorrow, if I see where the new location's going to be, I'll let you know. The mall location is technically Newington (right next to rte 16)

Just as an update, I was down there tonight. The Fox Run Mall location in Newington is closed. The new location two roads down (next to Home Depot) is open (and giving out $10 gift cards for opening weekend). It's about the same size as the Hadley, MA location (about 4-5X the size of the Fox Run Mall store - large, but not nearly as large as I was expecting when I heard 'flagship').

Does it seem odd that at the same time attendance in national Parks etc. is down, outdoor stores are growing and expanding?

went into the new location the other day out of curiosity. it is bigger than the mall, but as far as gear selection i still don't think it compares to their location in north conway or to other chains like rei (at least for what i generally look for). the new store does carry a lot more bikes, kayaks, and rock climbing gear than the mall store did. that may have been their point in moving?.....i suppose location as well.
i still find home depot building a new store directly next to their old location more interesting.
