It was a spur of the moment hike....I could feel the humidity dropping by the minute, plus the temps were dropping a bit, and the winds were always busy. This always leads to a great midsummer afternoon hike. I've been trying to see if there are trails that lead from Quarry Hill in Lebanon NH, to Boston Lot lake. Past times I have attempted to find a way, but came up short. Well, not yesterday! Not only did I find a way, but I discovered several other fun things along the way. Plus, it ended up being quite the long trek, around 9-10 miles, so I really got my workout in, and then some. These pics were all taken between elevations of 600 and about 1100 feet.
We'll start out with a Red Eft
Some bunchberries
Can you see me??
Then, a "WRONG TURN" led me to this great local view of the Lebanon area.
Its just a nice place to sit, and have lunch, as long as the deer flies aren't insane, like they were yesterday...
After checking out the view, I came across a wet piece of paper, which happened to be a bikers/hiker map of pretty much every Boston Lot trail!! I knew the direction I was supposed to go to hit the lake, and knew I was almost there, but the map was a welcome addition to my confidence, and within 20 min or so, I was down by the lake.
I had tons of energy, so I decided to take the trail along the lake, which ended up flooded on one side, so I had to bushwhack a bit.
Normal trail around the lake, very picturesque
Flooded! Drats!!!
Decided to take a dip here
I have to say, this was my most succesful hike of the year, because I wasn't out there because I felt like I should be out there....because I am a hiker. Kind of hard to explain, but sometimes it bothers me that I don't want to hike all the time, and then I force myself anyways, and end up unsatisfied. Well, not yesterday. I found nice views, discovered a way to get to a great pond, and all in all had a very quiet hike except for a couple people at the water. If you want solitude, check out the trails in the Boston Lot. I ended up doing 9-10 miles today, and there are many more miles I haven't explored yet. Thanks to the map I found, I will soon.
