Conditions: Packed snow all the way up to treeline. Nearly bare above treeline, with some fairly icy patches.
Equipment needed: Carried snowshoes, but the whole trail could be bare-booted. I found microspikes just the right thing for going up the steep sections of trail. I probably would have been better off if I'd switched to regular crampons at treeline, but left them in my pack.
Comments: It was still quite windy when I reached treeline at noon, and the gusts were a bit tricky to deal with. Since I've already done Lincoln and Lafayette in winter, I decided this would just be a picture-taking and exercise hike, and I headed back down instead of going along the ridge. Beautiful sunny day.
