for some strang reason, I feel more comfortable on firetowers in the winter. In the summer the planks are wet/soggy and bouncy. I feel that I am going to fall right through. This winter I have gone right to the top of everyone I have been on and have felt no fear at all.

That's odd because logic would dictate that it would be more dangerous to climb them in winter (snow and ice on steps).

Haven't come across one yet that I'd be willing to climb. The tower on Carrigain looked solid enough, but the steps and railings were totally encrusted with ice when I was there a few years ago. The scariest looking tower is the one atop Snow Mountain Chain of Ponds. (see photo) The floor looked pretty rotted in places, and you have to climb a ladder to the top. I'll take the good earth under my feet any day, thank you!
