The trails are in good shape, although the lower part of Flume Slide has a few mud holes and a couple of easy stepovers. The many stream crossings are a piece of cake with the low water levels. What surprised me is the large number of herd paths along the ledge section of the trail. I can see if I made the mistake of trying to hike down it, and worse hike down it when it was wet, that there would be a strong temptation to stay off the bare ledge in places. I even accidentally found myself on one herd path at one point it was so well used. There is no sign for the Flume Slide trail that I saw when it met with the Osseo Trail and perhaps that is to discourage downhiking on it.

Having said that, this is a fun hike, and much less busier (we saw no one today on it) than an up and down Liberty Springs. The mighty tough little dog "talked" me into it reluctantly since I remember having to help a big airedale several times on the ledges many years ago and so I've stayed away with my schnauzers. But Pepper put on his spiderman paw pads and thinking cap and found a way up every time, leaving me behind, just like he did the day before on the Willey stairs. It must be great fun to be him; it is great fun to be with him.
