Hiked the Flume Slide Trail for the first time on Friday; Liberty Springs Trail is well packed; Flume Slide Trail is easy going (moderately-packed snow) to base of slide. The slide itself is dry, loose, deep powder. It took considerable effort to get to 4,000 ft. We had good flotation, but due to the unconsolidated nature of the snow, good snowshoe crampons, and or mountaineering crampons are highly recommended. This trip is not for the faint-hearted. The climb up the slide is grueling and relentless, and the snow is loose & deep.
