Both Lincoln Woods and Osseo were dry and in excellent shape with minimal mud in first 2.1 mile stretch of Osseo before the switchbacks. Few mud spots on stairs up to the Downlook sign at the 3.7 mi. mark but again readily negotiated. Final stairway to the heavens was dry and easy to negotiate. Only a few mosquitos at around 6 pm and no other bugs. If there's a trail adopter somewhere who's responsible for the superb conditions - big thanks.

Fabulous views - we lingered 45 min at the summit because it was so great, and thus decided against adding Liberty to the trek. Shared the peak with at least a dozen others including a USFS ranger on the lookout for folks camping where they shouldn't be. Could look down and draw the arc of the Franconia peaks, to Garfield, to Galehead, to the Twins and the Bonds and the Pemis below as if we were looking at a relief map. A day for any "I hate hiking" people you know - I defy anyone to look at such a view and NOT be awestruck.

Equipment: poles for the downhill, if you like them; bug juice optional.
