Date of Hike: 01/21/2010
Trail Conditions: Lincoln Woods packed as usual. Light use on Osseo trail , but firm enough underneath the 2-3 inches of new powder. Excellently graded trail - perfect for snowshoeing. Last bit steep - ladders (what ladders?) completely covered. Summit has a steep western drop, but trail and snowpack make for a safe passage up the ridge.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes and poles helpful - loose snow is about 2 feet deep on either side of trail. Crampons would be helpful on last steep incline over the ladders, but I managed fine by snowshoe sidehilling, though it was a bit of a struggle in parts. Several layers and gloves, hat, facemask needed at summit.
Comments: Beautiful day - crystal blue skies and spectacular undercast to the north and west. Snow deep enough on summit to allow excellent view into the Pemi. Very slight chilly wind on top was bearable with the right headwear. Great day to be on the mountain.
