If it ain't snowin' there, we ain't goin' there.
Not the proverbial "charismatic megafauna," but still . . .

I would be reasonably confident that I saw a fox squirrel yesterday in the Ossipee Mountains, except all my sources tell me that they're not here in New England.

Rufous, but definitely not a red squirrel.

Foxy looking, and not like gray squirrel.

Bold and quiet, like fox squirrel's rep.

Anybody in the know who wants to confirm or contradict?

what the heck ???

"Distribution:
Fox squirrels are found throughout the Eastern United States; their natural range extends from Florida north to Canada, and west to the Dakotas, Colorado, and Texas. Fox squirrels are not found in the New England region of the United States. The habitat requirements and physical characteristics of the squirrels varies signifiicantly from one part of its geographic range to another."

I don't know why they wouldn't be found in New England since they are north, south and west of us.
