We went up Falling Waters. Just below treeline there was about 2' of snow although the trail was well packed. Above treeline there were occasional 3' drifts but most of the ridge was clear of snow. 50 mph winds with higher gusts and we were completely clouded in for most of the trip. Amazing day.
Equipment: We both bare booted the whole way. We had crampons but managed just fine without them. All the other hikers we saw were wearing crampons. Trekking poles were very useful in not getting blown off of the ridge.
Some videos from the day can be seen here: http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/561712005CohGlr?vhost=outdoors
I am an High School Earth Science teacher and we are currently studying meteorology and air pressure.
