Trails: Gale River Tr up, Garfield Ridge Trail Across, Garfield Trail down to skimobile trail to the loop road back to Beaver Brk Ski area
Conditions: Crusty snow punched through in places. I lost the Garfield Ridge trail going west from the Gale River Trail junction but later rejoined it. Garfield Ridge trail above the campsite is severely punched up.
Equipment: Skinny XC skis (with skins) up to first river crossing at Gale River; down from Garfield. Snowshoes up to Galehead and across the ridge.
Comments: Beautiful day with tremendous sunshine (of course!). Had an awesome slow-motion ski down from Garfield with the skins. The snowmobile cutover from the bottom mile of the Garfield trail was an awesome glide (plus a few uphills) to the loop road to the ski area parking. Carrying the skis on the pack across the ridge was the worst possible experience (2 hours of torture catching and breaking ALL branches-- MENTAL NOTE: never EVER do that again! Or find a better way. Not sure if it was worth the fun of the later gliding).
