Snow got really deep (i.e. snowshoes are better) around 3500 feet. Garfield Ridge Trail was virgin West of the peak down to the pond with plenty of still soft snow. Garfield summit was ice, blown snow and dry rock.
Galehead from Twin Brook Trail was fine down by 13 Falls but not consolidated enough for barebooting higher up. Blowdowns on TBT were frequent down low and common up higher. Snow was very deep (and tough to bareboot) for the last 1/2 mile to the hut.
Snow started around noon on 12-5, but was light until later in the afternoon. I can't see not bringing snowshoes on any of the trails around these summits after today (12-5).
Rivers were still very high from rain and snowmelt as of 12-5. Trails without snow were generally full of water.
