Garfield and Franconia Ridges - July 4

The Tecumseh Mountaineering Academy (MEB,ARM & Myself) did a last minute (literally decided at 5am that day!!) hike up Garfield and down falling waters trail-

I needed a mellow/moderate day out one last time before heading out west and this fit the bill perfect. Thanks to meb and arm for coming - as always, a fun day - I could do this ridge 1000 times and still love it.

this is just a place for them to share their pics - I think they got some good ones.

We did find a dumbell near mt lincoln. that was odd. met a good few thru hikers doing the AT - nice to chat with them. but not many people out - must have been boozing at BBQ's - which is equally fun. :D  :D

fun day with good company as always. bugs were out..

I heard that Artex was doing arm curls on his one day Pemi/Franc traverse on July 1st.What a whimp leaving that thing up there twenty some odd miles into his run.
Sounds like a great day!

Have you added this to the "what have you found in the woods" thread yet??

I think that's pretty funny. "why the hell am I still carrying this dumbell!??" :D  :D

Pack it in pack it out- Did you guys carry it out?? ;)

For awhile, I thought you ran into the guy that you posted wearing jeans on the Hogsback climbing Mt Hood.. :p

Not sure what you meant by Dumbbell, the literal sense or not!

ten-pound dumbbell on Lincoln ... trail-running isn't tough enough, some folks need to lift weights while they're up there ?
I have heard of people carrying weight for training, or just to be macho. (I heard of one guy who claimed to never hike with less than 70lbs...)

If I wanted to carry weight for training, I'd carry extra water--easy to dump with minimal damage. I suppose one could carry rocks, but only if they matched the local rocks...

Yeah...that was really wierd to find that dumbell up there...maybe someone was training and just got too tired of carrying all that weight around or maybe they had a friend who was playing a mean joke on them and put it in their pack when they were not looking  :D

Overall a really great hike and great company. This was my first time on the section between Garfield and Lafayette and I was expecting it to be a lot tougher than it was. Never knew there was a pond right along the trail either. Thankfully the weather man were wrong again and we did not get any t-storms, at least where we were.

Anyone heading up that way beware that the bugs are out in full force so bring deet or a good fly swatter! I had one on my ankle that was the size of a small humming bird....I think it might have been a deer fly.

Here are some more pictures from our hike.
