Planning a midnight hike up Washington via the auto road. Is overnight parking at the Glen House allowed?

I don't know the answer for certain, but my hunch is the 'official' answer is no. However, I suspect that occasionally vehicles are left there if someone has a problem (mechanical or otherwise), and I've never seen a tow truck. As I was curious myself, I looked at the Glen House site (they control access to the road and maintain it) and didn't see any references to it. Mt Washington is a bit of a strange place in that road access is controlled by a private company; there's a NH State Park on the summit and the only way state vehicles can obtain access is over this private road; and all of this is within a National Forest.

The lot usually has a number of cars left overnight, I don't know whose they are but you won't be alone.

As per another post they also discourage hiking the auto road so if you're going to do that why worry about parking?

Just call and ask if you want to be sure.

Why worry about parking? mmm...well, let's see...because the next day when I attempt to enter my car, I'd like it to be there

There is a large gravel parking lot right across Rt 16 from the Glen House that is neither gated nor closed. Overnight Camping is not allowed, but leaving your car there while you hike the road is perfectly reasonable and done all the time.

Not that there is anything forbidding you from parking AT the Glen House, but you might wake staff who live on premise....... so just park across the road.
