I am planning my first climb of Gothics and seek input on routes. From the Garden via Phelps and Orebed or from Ausable club via West River tr and Beaver Meadow or Weld trail. any feedback appreciated

The Garden approach will take you up the infamous cables. It will also give you the views over towards Saddleback, Basin, Marcy, etc. It's longer this way.

From the AMR, you have to do the dreaded 'road walk'. But the falls are really cool (literally! hint! hint! ) and you can save a little mileage and time this way.

Also, if you are only planning to do Gothics, you might want to rethink that plan. There are lots of mountains close by, including Saddleback, Basin, Armstrong, the Wolf Jaws, and Sawteeth. You can consider them as add-ons or side trips, if time and energy allow.

Any way you go, it's an awesome mountain!
