I'm trying to load some tracklogs into GPSU and I keep getting error messages. I created the logs with Topo! In trying to figure the help file out I have a hunch I have to do something here:
gpsu.jpg

I've tried various settings but keep getting this error message:
gpsu2.jpg

Here's a snippet of my log file:

002,18T,601120,4901685,2212,11/19/2005,19:09:40,
003,18T,601216,4901648,2242,11/19/2005,19:09:41,
004,18T,601277,4901468,2208,11/19/2005,19:09:41,
005,18T,601469,4901376,2222,11/19/2005,19:09:41,
006,18T,601600,4901232,2221,11/19/2005,19:09:41,

I wonder if it's the numbers (002,003,004 etc.) that are causing the problems.

Can anybody help me sort it out?

I am not sure what you are doing but your record list looks like it may have several things wrong with it. I would need more info but, you have listed an ID called name which doesn't seem to exist. Also you have no zone number i.e. 18T listed but it is in your list. It looks like instead of using UTM you should be using degrees min seconds or some variant of that.

The best I can do right now without more info. If you have questions let me know.

I have tried a variety of settings in the record list fields including changing lat/long to UTM. Looking at my txt file I believe I need my #1 field to relate to 001,002 etc. but after fooling ariound with it still havn't succeeded. Looking at .txt files that work well with GPSU I see they are in this format:

BEGIN LINE
12S,0524186.62,3574859.66
12S,0524190.64,3574866.80
12S,0524204.71,3574895.38
12S,0524218.77,3574931.09
12S,0524228.79,3574962.04

Ie. no spaces, no numbers preceding the WP, nada.

Neil,

Are you trying to output a text file (comma delimited) to input into the GPSU using the format specified in the options dialog? And the format that works looks like this one?

12S,0524186.62,3574859.66
12S,0524190.64,3574866.80
12S,0524204.71,3574895.38
12S,0524218.77,3574931.09
12S,0524228.79,3574962.04

I think so. The format that works dosn't seem to require any changes to be made in the options dialogue. It just works. I get the impression that you have to look at your .txt file in Notepad and figure out how the fields are ordered. Then you can go and set up the data fields accordingly. It would be easier if you tell gpsu to ignore the first field in every line and that field 2 was Easting etc.

Anyway, I joined a gpsu forum and posted my problem. The author (I believe) himself responded by saying GPSU can't open Topo! generated files. Then he wrote a new version of a utility that he said would convert my data for opening in gpsu. I havn't tried it out yet. I wanted to use gpsu to convert my .txt into .gpx format.

Neil,

Send me a PM with a snippet of what the output data looks like and a snippet of what the GPSU input data that works looks like. It sounds like an easy converter program to write if you need it.

Also, I have TOPO! so can load those files.

Let me know.

Keith

First file opens seamlessly in GPSU. Second one won't work.
