Yes, was aware. From my Finger Lakes Trail association, I recall reading about a just completed Pennsylvania trail spur that tied together a network that crosses the state linking it to a cross-Maryland trail system and so on. The Finger Lakes Trail is looking at how to tie into the Penn system... it's about a 30 mi. spread IIRC.
The Finger Lakes Trail is part of the North Country Scenic Trail, a "premier footpath that stretches for about 4,600 miles linking communities, forests, and prairies across seven northern states. Already, more than 1,700 miles have been certified off-road. Additional miles follow shared paths, and some road walks". The NCST works in partnership with the National Park Service.
So someday this could be the longest trail -- all the way from North Dakota to Alabama!!
