Greenleaf Hut via OBP (Attempt)

Date of Hike: November 26th, 2008

Trail Conditions: Lower sections were wet with slush, 2-4 inches of snow which steadily increases to wind blown drifts if 12-18 below the cliffs. In sections along the cliffs and through the "agonies" there were 2-3 foot drifts. Snow from previous night was coated and packed down by rain creating a crust that was just enough to let you fall through :) Snowshoes would have been the right choice - but they were happy in my car :) Most ice on the trail was covered with wet snow which bonded well and therefore easily traveled over.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes would be ideal on upper section above cliffs but with today's traffics the trail is probably stepped through. No traction should be needed at this point up to the hut, beyond most likely. Poles (with the baskets) were very helpful.

Comments: Since I was breaking trial all the way up I was pretty tuckered out by the top of the 2nd agony and with sinking 2-3 feet in the drifts I gave it up to a couple younger guys that I passed on the way down. Most likely the trail is broken out all the way to the hut if not further.
