National Geographic has a webcam set up in Alaska where you can watch grizzlies hoping to grab a snack in the river.

Check it out!

Just saw a couple of bears on there, but no luck with the fish just yet. I guess they're taking after me, at least for the moment. :D

The webcam is at McNeil River State Game Sanctuary, where for thirty years humans have come to watch the brown/grizzly bears this time of year. This is the premier opportunity in the world to watch these bears in amazing proximity. The August 2006 issue of Alaska magazine has two articles on the subject.

Unfortunately, the articles are prompted by a recent decision of the Alaska Board of Game to open bear hunting immediately adjacent to the sanctuary, including a location about a mile from the webcam site. The guy who has managed the sanctuary that whole time, Larry Aumiller, has quit in disgust at the decision. He wants no part of encouraging bears to feel comfortable around humans, only to have them hunted nearby. One of the two articles is written by him and features some of his photos.
