MEB, DREWSKI, Satori, Dave and I decided after hiking the Franconia Ridge the day before that we hike the Hancock's the next day.
We all had stayed at the Lyon's the night before but decided to sleep in until 6am and get a 9am start.
Thanks to Andy we had our caffeine intake!!
We met at the hairpin turn parking lot and got started at or about 9am. The day was clear with bluer than blue skies, chilly temps and just a bit of wind. Much different from the day before.
We had decided that morning that we would hike the Hancock Loop Trail and climb both summits. The trail had been broken by some fellow VFTTer's ahead of us, who we met up with several times on the trail. Snow shoes were not needed but as we approached the steep section of the North Link, we put on our crampons, very helpful indeed!!
Along the trail we hit some windy and very cold temps as we made our ascent to the summit of N.Hancock. Making a stop before the summit we layered up and had some hot soup. Continueing to S.Hancock the temps remained cold and stayed fairly windy. MEB and I on the descent did some major glissading, (satori where were you????)
The hike through these woods was quite beautiful with the new snow that had fallen the night before, the forest was just beautiful.
It was a most enjoyable day.
Until next time. kmac
