hancocks after work wednesday 6/8
last night sherap john said he was going to do hancocks at 5:30 and invited me. i didnt post it cause he sounded like he wanted to really blast in and out of there. driving up, thunderstorms were predicted, and there was some sprinkles and darkening skies. i actuallly got there about 5:10, and waited till 5:38. I figured he would catch up if he was jogging as he said. i headed out and made it to the loop in hour and 7 minutes. funny, same time as doing osceola last night. i picked south peak to head up from there, in 21 min i was at the top. skies were blue, gorgeous, getting really nice out. on the way, brook crossings werent bad at all. john hadnt caught up yet, but i remember him saying he was always starting late, so i kept going over to north peak. i was there in 24 min, jogging a little across the ridge. just kept getting nicer out, blue skies. I took in the view and headed down. i didnt really want to be heading out in dark so i kept moving. bout 20 minutes down the north peak, then i jogged some of the cedar brook trail. i knew i had to hit the hancock notch trail, and it was going to be 1.7 miles out, but i couldnt remember whether to go left or right at the sign. figured thes sign would say which way was the kanc. nope. didnt say anything. no guidebook no map. laffs. i been out there about 5 times, but it was a long time ago. i picked right and i ran the whole way back to the kanc. guess i picked the right direction. if i had gone the other way, i would have just put the headlamp on, turned around at the junction, and got more exercise, though it would have been tiring on a work night. i got out in 3 hours 17 minutes total time. no sherpa john car at the parking lot. i guess the poor guy had to work. next time! would have been more fun with company, and maybe he would have had his guidebook..hee. no snow on this trip either, how nice.
