The Plan – Hancocks in the morning and Osceolas in the afternoon. Usually, this plan is a good plan.
The Hancocks.....
After a while, it seemed clear we would get one or the other, but not both (Hancocks and Osceolas). We lost a lot of time looking for stream crossings. High water, lots of it, and we bailed on The Hancocks and headed to The Osceolas. That was ~3 hours from our lives we’re never getting back.
The Osceolas.....
Wet trail, lots of mud, really high water, dry boots (yay!), Sue used her poles, steep climb on wet leaves and wet rocks, climb the wet and slippery chimney (running water), more mud, u-turn on the summit, oh yeah – more mud, descend the bypass, steep descent on wet leaves and wet rocks, really high water, boots still dry (yay!), Sue used her poles, lots of mud, pack at the trailhead just as the rain started.
In the end, we had a good day hiking the Osceolas.
