Date of Hike: 9/23/13
Trails: Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook, Hancock Loop
Trail Conditions: Hancock Notch Trail is in fine shape. Cedar Brook Trail is ok to first crossing but then is a mud puddle bog between the first and second crossing. For those unfamiliar with the Cedar Brook Trail, the first crossing can be a little tricky to see where the trail is on the other side of the brook making where to cross a little puzzling. When the trail becomes really sandy and near the brook this is where you will cross really soon, just look carefully across the brook and you should be able to spot a narrow trench that looks like a branch of the brook because there's always water in it...that is the trail on the other side! The Hancock Loop Trail is very steep going up to both peaks from the split and very eroded in spots. Between peaks is fine, new bog bridges have been installed this past summer, enjoy!
Comments: Quick and fun hike with Whitney, we saw some flurries on the summit and in the parking lot! ***Someone has cut the tops of the trees down at the North Hancock outlook, much like the summit of Mount Tecumseh*** Pics / Report
