I started out of the Garden and stayed on the Phelps trail all the way to the last junction with the State Range trail, over to Haystack and back out the same way. The weather when I started was a light rain, but thankfully it only lasted for the first half hour or so and after that the sun poked out to provide some really nice views from on top. For a hike as long as this, it went by fairly quickly, thanks to most of it being fairly easy; the brunt of the climbing was the last two miles. The trails were in great shape, not any mud to speak of and no blowdown.
Being the day after Labor Day, the trails were pretty much empty; I think I ran into 4 parties the whole day. I had intentionally put Haystack for the end of my 46'er trek, because of how amazing I had heard it was and it didn't dissapoint. #44 done, and Whiteface and Esther this Saturday to complete my ADK 46!
