Haystack...
Sorry I put my finger in a bad place.
From the Garden parcking to Bushnell Falls few wet snow in a very muddy trail, running water in the trail to the old place Slan Rock Lean-to.
Old boots and snowshoes tracks at this time, only snowshoes tracks after the junction to Basin for few time.
Very wet and deep snow after the last people turned back.
Fresh large bear tracks around 100 feet in the trail...Junior ask me if I think this bear is hungry? My answer I hope it is just the warm weater push this small animal outside of his bed!! to watch the thermostat!! :
Slow progress because We never sure if We will stay in the top of this snow.
We remove snowshoes and packsack near the Basin junction, fortunately all the Little Haystack and Haystack rock was dry and easy to hike.
When I watch the time Junior take the decision to go fast in Basin trail..I have no choix but it was a big difference between a runner rabbit and a slow snowshoes hiker never now if the next step put him in trouble...when We go up all the weight was in the lower leg, when We go down all the weight go in the from leg and without snow support many time I fall in the rock or water place.
Same snow conditions to catch Basin summit!!
Fortunately in the other side (North side) the snow conditions was better, same of the middle of the winter, easy to go down if You have a good crampons in your snowshoes.
Without snow in Saddleback rock place, but the wind, a couple of time change my snowshoes on my pack in a sail and I need to stop to resist at this move.
Without tracks before where the Neil and Rico turned last weekend, the last hour We used headlamp to return at the garden parcking.
Conclusion, in this day without snowshoes We never catch Haystack.....
But with the warm weather every day will be different!!!
Pinpin Junior.
